A trip to the land of sands

Soon, a lots of people were going to gather at the campus for Varchasva ’12, the sports and cultural fest of Hell.  A lots of girl, glamour and bullshit was going to get over the crowd in the coming couple of days. Folks were busy practicing for their sports , some were busy setting up meeting for the dignitaries coming up at the fest. A lot were busy handing a hell lot of other activities.  But there was something else going on in Room No. 1409. Niket and me were trying hard to fix a plan for our long trip from lucknow to Tanot mata. Tanot mata is a temple at Rajasthan– Pakistan border which is of high significance to the soldiers  posted at Longewala Post.  We were although excited only to think about a trip itself to  culturally rich Rajasthan and a chance to see the dunes for the first time. None of us ,even me who is from Rajasthan, has ever in their life seen the sand dunes.

We spent a whole lot of time planning to go only to the off beat places of rajasthan . No! certainly we had no interest in the alleys of Jaipur or the Nahargarh or the tourist laden City Palace. We tried to chose all those places which are either  less frequented by the tourists or have something unusual about it.

I hope you will like all the places we covered. Below is how we did it !

Day 1 : Shakti bhaiya sent us an old Tata  Indica, which was more or less giving the same look like a new one. Anyways it doesn’t matter, that was one of the lowest fare vehicle we people could afford for  such a long trip. The driver, although not only looked jolly but had a full flavor of “bhaiya” ness of U.P.  We started off at 2 in the noon. It was a good feeling to think about that we were gonna see a lot on this journey. This could be a journey we have always wanted. While on our way, we got a good news about our Short film winning a prize at XIMB Film Festival which  was an icing on the cake because we were going to get the cash prize in return which could probably be added to the budget of expenses we had decided for the trip.

Our Cab guy had a few problems in Kanpur trying to evade the Traffic police guys who if strolling on highways don’t have work other than asking for the “papers” of Gaadi. We got fix for a 1000 Bucks but we were allowed to move. We Passed Etawah, Firozabad, Agra, at the late night. We even got lost while bypassing Agra. There was no one who we could ask for our way to go to the NH. At a small trijunction, while looking for our way around, we came across a Sign board telling us the way for a place with a hillarious name ” Bitch puri”. We, the quick witted gang also came up with a quick slogan for the place ” Na aadhi na adhuri yahaan milti hai Bitch puri”.

Our First destination of the  plan was Bhangarh. After riding whole night and passing through the U.P. rajasthan border we were almost somewhere near Dausa in Rajasthan when our driver suggested a detour for Mehndipur Balaji Temple. Although we all heard about the place and knew some facts about it but were quite obnoxious about visiting it. But since we were on long vacation and had a lot of free time, we decided to give it a shot. Indeed that place was hell of crazy place. All type of  menand women having superstitious belief in god and its power could be seen there standing in a queue waiting for their chance to be treated by their God Balaji. Not to forget, this was 4 O’ clock in the night. It was certainly not a place for us.

Starting again , we reached some  few miles before Bhangarh.  So Before we actually moved into this Scariest place of India, we got a little break to stretch out our legs, pee out a lot and do a little photoshoot which usually was a moment of randomness.

They though they were going to get a good pic with the background for their FB cover photo

So finally came the Bhangarh, featured in Discovery channel’s Top 30 Scary places in the world. Although we didn’t find any thing scary about the place but instead felt it as a pleasant site to have a day out.

A Shopkeeper, when asked if there is really any ghost in there, replied ” kya bhoot wagairah aayenge jahaan aadmi hi duniya ka sabse bada bhoot hai” was an amazing quote of the day we started off with our fort visit. To us, the fort was something e never expected. A beautiful meadow, well maintained, neat and clean and a small temple at the entrance. Although it was a ruined fort , but gave an appearance of being a mighty wall in the past.

So , after a long tiring night travelling and the day in the sun at Bhangarh we finally decided to get a night spent in jaipur relaxing and preparing for the next few exciting days to come.
